Introduced to hickories by Buck Barrie on the 17th tee of Pacific Grove Municipal, his first reaction was, “Who would do that?” But with Buck’s offer of a matched set of Nicoll irons that needed whipping and gripping, he was hooked. While working still interferes with golf, Nelson has found time to play poorly in hickory tournaments in VA, NC, AZ, and AL.
