Chuck McMullin

Chuck is a distinguished figure in hickory golf; he is a founding member of the Society of Hickory Golfers, a founding member of the VaHGA and a constant and consistent hickory player. Chuck started hickory play while a golf club collector and member of the then Gof Collectors Society. 

“My first hickory event was a GCS regional event in Greensboro in 1996. I gave up modern equipment after the 2010 season and have played only hickories ever since. I have played in dozens of hickory events in the USA, Canada and in the UK over the years.

If you look in my bag you will find: 
Woods – pre 1935 by Jack White, Ben Sayers, J H Taylor
Irons – pre 1935 – assorted long, middle & short irons by Tom Stewart 
Flanged (sand) niblick by Ben Sayers (circa 1930)
Putter – LW gold medal by Spalding (circa 1933-34)

My one Open Division win was the 2000 Scottish Hickory at Gullane, Scotland.  As a Senior Division player I have won events in MI (Belvedere), WI (Lawsonia), NC (Mid Pines) & VT (Copley).

I have also played in several gutty events.  My gutty set is 100% Willie Park.  
     1 wood – a pre 1900 splice neck compressed head spoon
     5 pre 1900 smooth face irons
1 cleek, 2 general irons, 2 lofters – all with Park shaft stamps
     A heavy pre 1900 blade putter
